The History of Dyson

James Dyson launched his first product, the Sea Truck, while he was studying at the Royal College of Art in London in 1970. A few years later came the award-winning Ballbarrow (which had ball instead of a wheel), then there was the Wheelboat and the Trolleyball. The integral hose used in the vacuum cleaners is also a Dyson invention.

In 1978 James Dyson casually revealed why his bag vacuum cleaner lost suction power. He was vacuuming the room and noticed how dust blocked the airflow, so that suction dropped rapidly. He approached to this problem seriously and 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later, the world got to know the first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner. The Dual Cyclone™ system is the first breakthrough in technology since the invention of the vacuum cleaner in 1901.

The Principle of the Dual Cyclone technology
The original team of 3 Dyson engineers grew to 350 scientists in a new research center, investigating ways to make products work better. Determined to create vacuums with higher suction, the cyclonics team developed an entirely new type of cyclone system. They discovered that spreading higher airflow through many cyclones generated even higher suction power, which picked up more dust from the floor. Hence the Root8Cyclone™ was created. James Dyson's vacuum was nearly never made due to the problems with patent fees and legal costs. Development years with no income almost bankrupted him. He risked everything, and fortunately the risk paid off.

When Dyson re-examined the washing machine, they discovered that a few minutes of handwashing washed clothes cleaner than long-time washing in a best-performing washing machine. Dyson solved this by producing the Contrarotator™, washing machine with 2 drums. So people could wash clothes faster and more gently, and with cleaner results.
